Our mystery quilter for this month is Jeanette Mckenzie. She had such an amazing collection of gorgeous quilts to share. She explained that she started quilting after she retired as a school teacher. It really is hard to believe that she hasn't been quilting all her life.
Thank you, Jeanette, for inspiring us with your beautiful work.
Ilene shared some sewing tips that will be helpful to all of us.
She talked about threading multiple needles at the same time to save time later. Also, about using washable markers to mark quilting lines.
Alana then taught us how to make many variations of a basic quilt block using 2 1/2, or 2 or 1 1/2 inch squares combined with larger squares. It is such a good way to use up scraps and makes really pretty blocks. She also showed quilts she has made using the different blocks.
Thank you Alana for the instructions and for the examples. Great work.
Then it was on to show and tell.
Ilene made this quilt and will donate it to her grandson's school.
Pam took a class in Cedar to learn how to make this quilt. She quilted it herself and did a fantastic job.
This is the falling charms quilts that Pam started at the Zion retreat. She also quilted this one and her quilting looks professional.
This is Nayna's disappearing 4 patch quilt. She quilted this one herself.
Nayna finished her falling charms quilt as well. Such pretty colors.
Alana made this beauty using some of the alphabet block patterns. The next photo is the back of the quilt.
She took this hanging diamonds class at Ruby's and it is so pretty.
This butterfly quilt is very special to Alana because her daughter, Melanie, had the pattern enlarged and made special for her Mom. Alana said it was a very time consuming quilt but it turned out so nice.
Micky finished this quilt for a friend. Another friend put the quilt together and the end result is beautiful.
She joined a block of the month club and couldn't decide which color combination she liked best so she ordered both.
Micky is practicing her hand quilting and is enjoying it. The next photo shows a sewing essentials bag that she made from a kit from Dave's Bernina. She said it is really useful.
Anita showed us seven of the table toppers she has made for her kids. She said the colors are from a football team that they all like. She has been busy.
Addie Lou finished her alphabet block quilt. She did such a good job and the quilt is just beautiful.
