AUGUST GUILD MEETING

We learned so much at our meeting today and enjoyed being with each other. 

Our block of the month is the Rail Fence and several finished it. We will be through with our ABC project before we know it.

We had so many beautiful items for our show and tell today. This quilt belongs to Anne Richardson and is for her daughter. She had Linda go around all the circles with her new machine and it really turned out nice.

Pamela showed two of her blocks from the classes that she took from Jennie Doan. She enjoyed the classes and learned a lot. The blue and yellow quilt will be for her daughter when it is finished.

Alana has been very busy finishing up these quilts. This one is called Busy Bumble Bee and is so pretty.

 This one is the jelly roll race that she cut from a kit that she bought and just didn't really like. It is really striking.

 This gorgeous quilt is for a sister-in-law and Alana used a fusible interfacing technique for the circles and she said it really was easy. Lucky sister-in-law.

 Last month Alana demontrated hand quilting on this block and she had it finished up for this month. She took a class for this block from Jennie Doan.

 She made this little quilt from scraps that were given to her.

 Alana's Mom made these incredible blocks and Alana finished the quilt. Someone said that the pattern is called Doll Lady. What a cherished keepsake.

Judy finished the You've Got Mail quilt that she started at the guild retreat. Well done Judy.

Nanelle made this quilt for her daughter-in-law because she wanted something that looked like water. It is bright and colorful and very beautiful.

 Nanelle made this quilt from flannel and is deciding that she just might keep it for herself. I don't blame her it is just darling.

 This quilt is made with wool and is a block of the month project. Nanell does really beautiful applique work.

We are all so proud of Jean. This is her very first quilt and she even quilted it herself. She learned a lot from this first one and everyone is anxious to see her progress.

Addie Lou also finished her You've Got Mail quilt. She used 30's prints and a piano key border and it is so cute.

Jeanette showed her latest landscape picture. She used a kit for this one and it really turned out nice. She also gave the tip of the month and told about a product called Lite EZ steam II that she really prefers to the paper backed fusible interfacing. With this product you can move the pieces around on the backgound fabric instead of pinning them which makes it so much easier when working with small pieces. We were all happy to learn about this product and will give it a try.

 She also finished her scrappy trip around the world and it is so colorful and pretty. Great job Jeanette.

 This landscape piece is called Chapel on the Rock. This chapel is located in Sedona, AZ and Jeanette said it is the most peaceful beautiful place. We all loved the piece.

Fran showed this amazing quilt that she made for a granddaughter. She wanted something that looked like water and she really got it. Notice the center that looks like a reflection. Fabulous job, Fran and what a very lucky granddaughter.

 Fran made this cute little animal print quilt for Project Linus. She said the quilts are given to children that have a real need for something to cuddle.

 She calls this quilt Here kitty kitty because all the blocks but two are dog prints. There are two kitty prints. Thanks for letting us know about this worthy cause.

Carol taught a class on making bowtie blocks. She really did a great job and most of us made a very sweet little bowtie block that can be used for borders or whatever else you want.

Marla finished out the day by demonstrating how to square up a block. She showed that you can use either a square ruler or a rectangular one. She also noted that there are as many ways to square up a block as there are to mess one up. And she said that it is impossible to square a block up, just down. So, if it is too small then maybe start over. It is important to square blocks and half triangles if you want your quilt to turn out correctly. Thank you Marla.
