August Quilt Guild meeting

We had fun at our guild meeting and learned some interesting things. Jeanette will be doing a display of the critters and blankets that we donate to the hospital. All members are encouraged to bring their animals and blankets to the Western Legends Quilt show and show them and then they will be delivered to the hospital. The children that come through the hospital sure do appreciate those little stuffed animals and it gives them some comfort.

Our Mystery Quilter for the month was Nanelle Robinson. She shared some of her beautiful quilts and told us background stories on a few of them.

This quilt was one of the first quilts that Nanelle made and it is special to her because it is the last one that her Mother quilted.

She made this quilt at a class that her son enrolled her in as a thank you for helping her daughter-in-law with a difficult pregnancy. Nanelle said that this quilt started her addiction to quilting.
The next three quilts were from classes taken at Ruby's and are beautiful.

Nanelle loves to applique with wool and suggests that everyone try it because wool is so forgiving.

This is a block of the month wall hanging and each little square is for a different month.

This table topper is made from left overs from a king size postage stamp quilt.

Thanks Nanelle for an inspiring show.

Next, we had show and tell.

Alana showed her latest bright, fun quilt using the disappearing 9 patch pattern.
This darling baby quilt is made from the same pattern as the large double wedding ring quilt that she made last year.

Judy finished her tumbling blocks quilt and did an amazing job. She said it was heavy because she used flannel on the back. It really turned out nice.

Joan finished her alphabet block quilt from last year and did a beautiful job. We all loved the colors and borders.

Pam showed this quilt that she made from a jelly roll that Ellie won as a door prize right before she passed away. Pam is giving the quilt to Lawrence.

Next on the agenda was a demonstration on the Disappearing 9 patch quilt pattern. Nayna showed how you can switch the blocks around so that there are no seams to match. Alana showed a little different way to rotate the blocks. A fun and easy block.

Crystal then  showed us how to make an Easy LeMoyne Star Block. She did a great job with her demonstration and her samples were beautiful. Most of us thought that we could tackle this block.

Thanks Crystal!

We ended the meeting with a couple of games. We played the Ugly fabric game and a fill in the blank quilt block name.
A good time was had by all.
